Two white -throated kingfishers on a tree limb. The one on top has just caught it's prey - an insect. These are large kingfishers with a bright red bill and feed on insects and rodents besides fish. These are resident birds though sometimes may make short distance moves. April 2016, Kaziranga National Park.
The oriental darter or snakebird is a very common bird in Bharatpur. One can often see it perched on a branch with its wings spread out to dry as these get wet when they dive into the water for food. The name ‘snakebird refers to the long thin neck which looks like a snake when they swim in the water with their bodies submerged. Bharatpur. January 2016
